Threats to Our Self-Reliance

No matter the level of independence you seek, you are far from it.

Achieving self-sufficiency in America seems near impossible.

After almost 11 weeks of tent camping in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, I see that in America, the concept of “self-reliance” is near impossible.

No matter how much we seek to attempt escape from dependance and reliance on the outside world, “they” still have their claws in our wallets, our location, insurances, and of course, our many electronic devices; and there are more.

These things impede American’s from self-reliance:

  • Food and water supplies
  • Gas — oil — plastics
  • Insurances — Health, vehicular, home, business, life
  • Software-as-a-Service providers and web hosts
  • Banks, ATMs, mortgages, and credit card debts
  • Devices requiring WiFi and recharging
  • Licenses, registrations, zoning, speed limits
