The Lessons From Week 1 on Medium

A few pivots, realizations, and cross-platform coordinating — whew
Hurrah! Work week one on Medium is over. It’s Friday night, right before bed time. My brain is jell-o. Everything I look at is blurry. But I’m excited! This long Fourth of July weekend could not come at a better time. Here are five reasons why:
- A second story almost is ready for posting Tuesday. This weekend, I will write more. My biggest challenge remains what it has been the last five years. With the meds I’m on, my brain is inhibited by the dozen meds I take at least two dozen times. Most every bottle says, “May cause drowsiness, don’t drive in the median or post on Medium after taking this med.” Something like that….
- Taking my medically-induced cognitive limitations into consideration, I read a story this week about goal setting. The writer urged newbies to establish long-range goals. Stop thinking you will have 1,000 followers in a week. For most mere mortals, even with our superpowers, things do not work like that. We should be more realistic. How about having three to five people become loyal readers by the end of July? If it’s the middle of August or beginning of September even, that’s okay. We are talking quantity v. quality here and the latter must prevail. Maybe 25 loyal readers will be known by year’s end. Success depends on pricking your fingers when the…
