Thank you for posting, I stumbled upon Vella over the weekend. As you all likely know, 100 years ago via magazines, this tended to be one of the best ways for a writer to slowly share their stories, and provide magazines with content their readers would read. It's trying to make a comeback. My issue is that I still want to go after a NYC agent, editor, and publisher. They tend to not like it when your text is already published somewhere else. But with Kindle Vella, writers earn the 50/50 in payouts. That's pretty good considering the Big Five/Four payout for most debut authors is an amount much less for the writer and more for the house.

The then question comes as to whether or not this is the best option. If you create a frequent newsletter over on Substack, it appears you get a better return for your dollar. Regardless, @ShauntaGrimes, wrote in November of 2019, "Can you use Substack for your email list? (Don't kill the messenger!) Her conclusion is that writers will still need to build an email list in order to make this kind of thing to work.

I have a question: What if you posted Beginning 1, Beginning 2, and Beginning 3, as those first three freebies to measure which opening works the best in hooking readers? Maybe spell that out in an Editor's Note at the beginning of each saying, "Help me pick the best way to beging my book.

You have my utmost attention about this and I would like to know how well this conept is working these many months later. Do you/can you publish the same piece in Kindle Vell as and Substack. Who governs the rights? Etc.
