Nero fiddled, Joe Biden Piddles.
The similarities between Nero, and US President Joe Biden could not be more similar. According to History.com, Nero’s fiddling had dual meaning. He played music while Rome burned. But the phrase is a statement about Nero also being an ineffective leader during crisis. (AP wire photo modified by author.)

As children, most heard the old saying about how “Nero fiddled while Rome burned.”

According to History.com, the phrase has a dual meaning. While Rome burned, Nero played music. The extra punch to this phrase describes the lack of leadership Nero provided in times of crisis.

Rome burned for six days and destroyed 70 percent of the city. This left a large percentage of the city homeless.

Why does Nero’s actions in 64 A.D. matter in 2022?

In concept and legend, the actions and leadership of Nero and Joe Biden are much the same.

Nero put his priorities above those of the people of Rome

There are many who believe that Nero may have had the fire in Rome set himself. After the fire, Nero built a grand palace over much of the destroyed city.

But one thing in particular sets Nero apart from Joe Biden.

As soon as Nero viewed the fire from outside the city, 30 miles away, he rushed back to provide aid to his citizenry.
