Lessons Learned: Two Weeks Off-Grid

Bug Spray, Coolers, Great Pyrenees, Tents, Tools

Desk and bed maple wood yet to be debarked, cleaned, stained, and assembled. And yes, a few 2" x 6" x 48" boards.

Today marks two weeks since my Great Pyrenees, Maycee, and I arrived in the deep woods to spend as much time as we can off-grid.

Has this been easy? Not really.

Have outside influences tried to make things troublesome? Yes.

When was the last time I saw or listened to the news? Two weeks now and I feel so much better.

The following are areas where I’ve done considerable learning or had epiphanies about:

Bug Spray
Coolers — ice chests
Great Pyrenees and rain and thunderstorms
Tents and rain flies
Tools I use

So let me tell you what I’ve learned about each and how they’re helping improve the experience.

Bug Spray

This morning I sprayed myself with the unique smell of wet bug spray. Then I thought, why don’t designer companies get into this space?

You-re in the woods, there are few smells like bug spray. You must wear it many days though. Otherwise, you’ll be eaten to death by mosquitoes. Those buggers are fast to find human flesh.
