How to Speed up Your Mac
A few clicks saved me 123 GBs of space and made my machine run like new again.
Mac Owners:
Deleting the Caches folder in your Mac’s library can make it run like you took it out of the cool box five minutes ago.
I did not know this until two weeks ago, when my 2019 iMac ran so slow, the audio and video on FaceTime experience a latency of five seconds or more.
Apple Support and I spent five hours on the phone that week. We determined a fan blew out on my iMac. Seldom do I ever turn off my Macs. I may when thunderstorms are in the area. The rest of the time, they are on.
And while it is on and running a gazillion functions without me realizing it, temporary data gets dropped into the Caches folder in your Mac’s library. And two weeks ago, I had 123.6 GBs of files in my system Caches folder on a 2 TB iMac.
That affected my system operations.
Before getting started
Before you start this process, I recommend you have a current backup of your system in Time Machine in case something goes wrong. But keeping a current backup is something you should keep all the time. Not for situations such as these.
