Hiking to New Tent Camping Site

Like most everything, it’s uphill, but with the wind.

On the Passing of Former Montgomery, AL Newsman Kim Wanous

First of all, I’m sending out condolences to the family of Kim Wanous, a wonderful newsman from Montgomery, Alabama who passed away Wednesday due to complications from Covid.

Amy, Hannah, et al, I’m deeply saddened to hear the news of your incredible loss.

Tent Camping Update

The hike isn’t easy, especially for one with severe back and leg pain.

But we must look at moving our tent camping site to higher ground. One where the local black bears would hopefully not like as much as the present site that’s surrounded by summer-ripe raspberries.

Yesterday was the fifth encounter we’ve had with a black bear. My eight-year-old Great Pyrenees, Maycee, was at the time preoccupied with her daily games with the campsite’s chipmunks.

The black bear came into our view from downwind, so with the high winds of the morning blocking the other way, its scent and approaching noises were dampened so that the bear was out in plain view when I saw it. And to this point, I’m not sure Maycee saw it at all.
