The WordPress website, is it still needed in 2022? (Screenshot by author.) QUESTION: Do you need a website in 2022?

This is part 2 of a series. The beginning can be read here!

ANSWER: Depends on who you ask. I say yes; you need a website in 2022 and beyond and there are dozens of reasons. But here are 10 off the top:

  • A website can help establish and build your authority in a niche. But, a personal website may not do this as well as writing on Medium.com or Substack.com, et al. Contrary to what some say, from my studies, I’ve found my Medium and Substack posts rank well in Google. They rank higher because the story appears on a platform with high authority.
  • You need a website for search engine optimization. Eh…. At present, searching “incognito” for “Donald J. Claxton” on Google results in six of 10 links to my content. I hold spot number one with my LinkedIn account. The second spot is for this Medium account. Next is a listing for donaldjclaxton.com. Then comes my account on Pinterest. The last link to me on the results page is for my Twitter account. The others are for Donald John Claxton, who died in February in Louisiana.
  • Your website is the best platform for your portfolio, testimonials, and business inquiries. “Best” is a buzzword on the internet. But is the concept accurate? Yes…
