An Excercise for New Writers

--

Make a list of your passions, proficiencies, and what will make a profit.

If a creator can find the sweet spot in red, then they perfect the formula for growth.

Last week I took a five-day course on attracting my first 1,000 subscribers on YouTube. I am making videos on a new YouTube channel and things have changed a lot in the last six years. But I saw the opportunity to consider ideas about how to grow my writing audiences, too.

Sean Cannell from Think Media asked us to do an exercise Friday that has provided some new ideas. But before sharing them in tomorrow’s story, I will explain the discovery process.

I hope you will use this process to your benefit as well.

Now let’s look at our old friend, the Venn Diagram.

The Venn Diagram on the Three Ps.

Consider three overlapping circles like the ones above.

The first circle represents one’s passions.

On a separate sheet of paper, Cannell said to list five, 10, or even 20 of your top passions. There is no limit on how many you write.

But if you reach 30 or more, 20 or more even, are the items listed passions?

Or are they items you like a great deal, but wouldn’t “go to the mattresses” over?

What are your best skills?
